    ASTM B127 - Monel 400 / UNS N04400 Plate, Sheet & Strip Specification

    ASTM B127 (also ASTM B127 Monel 400, ASTM B127 N04400, ASTM B127 plate, ASTM B127 sheet, ASTM B127 strip) is the Standard Specification for Nickel-Copper Alloy (UNS N04400) Plate, Sheet, and Strip. The grade is the nickel-copper solid-solution alloy trade-named Monel 400, registered as UNS N04400, Werkstoff 2.4360, DIN 17743 NiCu30Fe.     Scope of ASTM B127

    ASTM B127 covers UNS N04400 in three flat product forms separated by thickness and width. The chemistry bracket and the wrought-and-annealed metallurgical state are common; the form name follows the cross-section.

    The thickness break at 4.75 mm separates plate from sheet and strip; the width break at 610 mm separates sheet from strip. The same N04400 heat can be processed into all three forms; only the mill route changes.

    Mechanical Properties per ASTM B127

    ASTM B127 plate, sheet and strip ship in the annealed condition. The anneal solution-softens the nickel-copper FCC matrix; see Monel 400 mechanical properties.

    The 28 ksi yield separates annealed N04400 from precipitation-hardened Monel K-500 (UNS N05500), which reaches 90 to 130 ksi but is not supplied under B127. Plate is hot-rolled above 1093 degrees Celsius and solution-annealed; sheet and strip are cold-rolled between intermediate anneals and finish-annealed. Annealing is the only heat treatment available to N04400 (no aluminium, no titanium, no age-hardening response). See heat treatment.

    The MTC reports actual cast chemistry against the B127 bracket, tensile, yield, elongation, hardness and the heat-lot relation. On arrival, handheld XRF PMI confirms approximately 65 percent nickel and 31 percent copper, with chromium and aluminium below detection.
