Monel 400 density (also density of Monel 400, Monel 400 density g/cm3, UNS N04400 density) is 8.80 g/cm3, equal to 0.318 lb/in3, 8800 kg/m3 or 549.4 lb/ft3 at 20 degrees Celsius. The figure is carried by the Special Metals Alloy 400 product data sheet, ASTM B164 and ASME BPVC Section II Part D for N04400. Monel® is a registered trademark of Special Metals Corporation; TorqBolt is not authorized by, affiliated with or endorsed by Special Metals. Equivalents: UNS N04400, Werkstoff 2.4360, DIN 17743 NiCu30Fe, BS 3076 NA13, AFNOR NU30.
At 20 degrees Celsius Monel 400 sits at 8.80 g/cm3. The value is constant across product form and heat treatment because the alloy is a single-phase FCC nickel-copper solid solution with no precipitate phases.

The room-temperature figure governs PO weight calculation and MTC weight cross-check; mill EN 10204 type 3.1 MTC reports actual mass per piece against theoretical mass from 8.80 g/cm3.
Density falls slightly with temperature through thermal expansion. Mean thermal expansion is 13.9 micrometre/m/K between 20 and 100 degrees Celsius. Liquid nitrogen lifts density by under 0.5 percent; 500 degrees Celsius drops it by about 2 percent.

| 20 C (room) | 8.80 | 0.318 |
| 100 C | 8.77 | 0.317 |

Use 8800 kg/m3 for weight calculation: m = V x 8800. Round bar per metre = pi x (d/2)^2 x 8800; plate per m2 = thickness x 8800; pipe per metre = pi x (OD^2 - ID^2) / 4 x 8800. Conversion factor from 7.87 g/cm3 carbon steel to Monel 400 is 1.118: multiply a carbon-steel weight by 1.118 for Monel 400 at the same dimensions.
Linear weights at 8.80 g/cm3: 16 mm dia round bar = 1.77 kg/m; 25 mm = 4.32 kg/m; 50 mm = 17.28 kg/m; 100 mm = 69.12 kg/m. Plate at 20 mm = 176.0 kg/m2; at 50 mm = 440.0 kg/m2. One m3 = 8800 kg; one cubic foot = 249.2 kg (549.4 lb).
Against SS 316L at 8.00 g/cm3, Monel 400 is roughly 10 percent heavier; against Monel K-500 at 8.44 g/cm3, about 4 percent heavier. The reason is chemistry: 63 to 70 percent nickel (8.91 g/cm3 pure) plus 28 to 34 percent copper (8.96 g/cm3 pure) sit above the iron-chromium-nickel base of austenitic stainless steel.

| Carbon steel | A36 / 1018 | 7.85 | 0.284 | 0.89 |
Only Hastelloy C-276 and pure nickel sit above Monel 400. For a 1 m3 billet the gap to SS 316L is 800 kg, the figure that drives freight quote and lifting-gear sizing on heavy forging orders.
What is the density of Monel 400? 8.80 g/cm3, equal to 0.318 lb/in3 or 8800 kg/m3 at 20 degrees Celsius, per Special Metals Alloy 400 data, ASTM B164 and ASME BPVC Section II Part D.
Is Monel 400 denser than stainless steel? Yes. Monel 400 at 8.80 g/cm3 sits roughly 10 percent above SS 316L (8.00 g/cm3), reflecting 63 to 70 percent nickel plus 28 to 34 percent copper.
How much does a 1 metre Monel 400 round bar weigh? A 25 mm bar = 4.32 kg/m; 50 mm = 17.28 kg/m; 100 mm = 69.12 kg/m. Formula: pi x (d/2)^2 x 8800 with d in metres.
Monel 400 density in lb/in3? 0.318 lb/in3 (8.80 g/cm3, 549.4 lb/ft3).
Does Monel 400 density change with temperature? Slightly. A rise from 20 to 500 degrees Celsius drops density to roughly 8.62 g/cm3 (about 2 percent) at a mean thermal expansion of 13.9 micrometre/m/K.
