    Surface Finishes for Monel 400 Threaded Rod

    Surface and end-condition controls thread engagement, galling resistance and downstream coating compatibility. Specify on the RFQ.

    • Mill (as-rolled) - as-threaded matte, no post-treatment. General refinery, dry indoor flange bolting.
    • Bright drawn - cold-drawn bar before threading, Ra under 0.8 micrometre. Instrument racks, hydraulic manifolds.
    • Passivated - HNO3 dip, oxide film removed. HF acid duty, pharma reactor tie rods.
    • PTFE-coated - Xylan 1424 or equivalent fluoropolymer film. Subsea, splash-zone, anti-galling sour studs.
    • Silver-plated thread - electroplated silver on UNC or metric thread. High-temperature naval and aero studs.

    Applications for Monel 400 Threaded Rod

    The rod runs where the joint sees fluoride acid, flowing seawater, sour gas at NACE limits or a non-magnetic spec:

    NACE MR0175 Sour Service Compatibility

    Class A Monel 400 rod is qualified for H2S sour service to F468 mechanicals. The 25 HRC hardness cap clears the NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156-3 ceiling of 35 HRC. Cold work in threading must not push hardness past 25 HRC; thread-rolled rod carries a hardness reading on the MTC. Verify H2S partial pressure and chloride against ISO 15156-3 Annex A.4.     Every cut length is heat-numbered and stamped with heat number, diameter, thread spec and UNS N04400. EN 10204 type 3.1 standard; type 3.2 on indent for nuclear, NACE and NORSOK. PMI by hand-held XRF or OES at receipt.
