Monel 400 price (also Monel scrap price, UNS N04400 price per pound, Alloy 400 price per kg) tracks the London Metal Exchange (LME) nickel and copper benchmarks plus a converter premium for melt-cast-roll-anneal processing. The alloy is roughly 63 to 70 percent nickel and 28 to 34 percent copper, so the underlying metal cost is dominated by LME nickel with a meaningful copper contribution. Finished product is supplied under ASTM B164 (bar), ASTM B127 (plate, sheet), ASTM B165 (pipe, tube), ASTM B564 (forgings) and ASTM F468 (bolts). Pricing on this page is indicative Q1 2026; spot pricing fluctuates with LME nickel and LME copper. Monel 400 price is the sum of four cost layers: LME nickel cash (dominant), LME copper cash, converter premium covering melt, hot roll, anneal at 816 to 871 degrees Celsius, draw and polish, and specification premium for size, certification level, surface finish and lot. Metal value at the LME settlement is publicly priced; converter premium varies most between suppliers. At LME nickel near USD 16,000 per tonne and LME copper near USD 9,200 per tonne, raw metal value in one kilogram of Monel 400 is near USD 13.5 to 14.0 per kg. Finished bar prices above that base once converter premium, certification and lot size are added.
Indicative Monel 400 price bands by mill form. Ranges assume EN 10204 type 3.1, commercial lot sizes (50 to 500 kg per item), ex-Mumbai. Type 3.2 adds 4 to 8 percent. Small-lot orders below 25 kg carry a 10 to 20 percent break-pack premium. Re-index at quote date.

Monel scrap price and Monel 400 scrap price are benchmarked against the LME nickel cash settlement, discounted for density, cleanliness, and the copper-recovery credit. Clean, segregated Monel 400 solids (sheared bar ends, plate offcuts, identified turnings) trade at 50 to 70 percent of LME nickel cash for the contained nickel-equivalent. Mixed nickel-alloy scrap with Monel, Inconel and other nickel-bearing material commingled trades at 30 to 45 percent. Contaminated, oily, or unidentified turnings trade at 20 to 30 percent with a sulfur, oil and chloride deduction. At LME nickel near USD 16 per kg, clean Monel 400 solid scrap clears near USD 8 to 11 per kg at the yard. For batch sales above 1 tonne, demand a transparent settlement formula: LME nickel cash x Ni% x payable factor + LME copper cash x Cu% x payable factor minus sampling and refining charges. Avoid flat-rate buyers.
Monel K-500 (UNS N05500) carries an aluminium and titanium addition over the base Monel 400 chemistry, enabling precipitation hardening via solution treat plus 16 hours at 593 degrees Celsius. That lifts yield from roughly 30 to 40 ksi (Monel 400 annealed) to 90 to 110 ksi (K-500 age-hardened). The age cycle is energy-intensive and Al plus Ti are themselves commodity inputs. Monel K-500 trades at roughly 20 to 30 percent above Monel 400 on a per-pound raw-bar basis; the premium widens on finished components because K-500 is harder to machine. Monel 400 is the right pick unless yield strength above 60 ksi is in the spec.
Three modes are routine. Spot pricing covers one-off orders, quoted at the LME cash settlement with a 5 to 7 working day validity window. Frame contract pricing covers annual programs: converter premium fixed for the term, metal-value layer re-priced monthly or quarterly. Hedged pricing covers long-cycle EPC: the buyer hedges LME nickel and copper forward, the supplier prices converter premium only. MOQ on bar is typically 25 kg per size per heat; on plate, one full plate or 50 kg cut-to-size. Small-lot orders below 25 kg carry a 10 to 20 percent premium.
A clean Monel 400 spot price covers metal value, converter premium, EN 10204 type 3.1 certification, standard packaging and ex-works. The following sit outside the headline and are quoted as line items.
A binding Monel 400 quote needs ten data points. Send as a bill of materials and the RFQ returns line-itemised within one working day with a defined validity window.
Why is Monel 400 expensive? The alloy is roughly 63 to 70 percent nickel and 28 to 34 percent copper. Both are LME-listed; nickel dominates. Converter premium (melt, hot roll, anneal, draw) plus certification stack on top of the raw metal value.
Is Monel scrap valuable? Yes. Clean Monel scrap trades at 50 to 70 percent of LME nickel cash; mixed or contaminated grades trade lower. The high nickel content drives the value, with a smaller copper-recovery credit.
What is the difference between Monel 400 and Monel K-500 price? K-500 (UNS N05500) carries Al plus Ti for precipitation hardening. The age cycle and the alloying additions push K-500 roughly 20 to 30 percent above Monel 400 on a per-pound raw-bar basis. The premium widens on finished components.
How do I read a Monel 400 quote? A binding line references form, grade, specification, size, quantity, EN 10204 type 3.1 or 3.2, surface finish, packaging, INCOTERMS, lead time, and currency. Spot prices are LME-indexed at quote date with a 5 to 7 working day validity window.
Does Monel 400 plate cost more than round bar? Yes. Hot-rolling and edge-finishing lift Monel 400 plate price roughly 20 to 30 percent above Monel 400 round bar price for equivalent chemistry and certification level.
