Monel 400 Hex Bar — UNS N04400 per ASTM B164
Monel 400 hex bar (UNS N04400) is the wrought feedstock for machined hex bolts, hex nuts, valve stems, and downstream hex-headed fasteners requiring full HF and seawater resistance. TorqBolt supplies cold-finished hex bar to ASTM B164 in across-flats sizes 5/16″ through 4″ (8-100mm), in random lengths 3-6 m. EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certification supplied.

FAQs
What hex sizes are stocked vs mill-order?
Stock sizes typically AF 5/16″ through 1-1/2″ (8-38mm). Sizes 2″ and above (50+mm) are usually mill-order with 8-12 week lead time.
Can hex bar be supplied in metric AF dimensions?
Yes — AF 8/10/13/17/19/22/24/27/30/36/41/46/55/65mm directly supportable. Indicate the wrench-size standard (DIN, ISO, ANSI) for the matching bolt head form.
What hardness condition is best for machining hex bolts?
Annealed (HRB 60-80) is easiest for screw-machine work. Cold-drawn (HRB 85-95) holds dimensional stability better for precision parts. Annealed is standard from stock; cold-drawn is specified separately.
Does Monel 400 hex bar gall under preload?
Monel 400 has moderate galling resistance — less than Nitronic 60 but better than 304/316. For repeated assembly/disassembly with metal-on-metal threads, apply anti-seize compound (nickel-based) on first installation.
